EADTU awards University of Nicosia with the E-xcellence label

EADTU awards the E-xcellence Quality Label to the University of Nicosia (UNIC), renewing it for the period 2023-2026.

An EADTU E-xcellence review provides educational institutions with the opportunity to conduct an assessment of its e-learning provision, with the E-excellence benchmarks and quality manual providing the framework for an initial self-evaluation followed by an external review.

The review meeting, led by E-xcellence reviewers Ebba Ossiannilsson and Jon Rosewell, provided valuable opportunities to share experiences about quality assurance and the improvement of e-learning.

Benchmarking e-learning in a Finnish setting

This spring, the Open University of the University of Jyväskylä (JYUOpen) was pleased to welcome a delegation of EADTU’s E-xcellence reviewers. The quality audit, evaluating open university education for its technological, educational and policy accomplishment, is an invaluable addition to JYUOpen’s ongoing quality processes, facilitating the identification of strengths and areas of development.

ENQA publication ‘Considerations for quality assurance of blended and online education provision’

ENQA’s working group on quality assurance and blended and online education published Considerations for quality assurance of blended and online education. The document is a guidance on how to apply the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area, in the context of blended and online education. The findings of the working group were presented in the EADTU-ENQA webinar ‘QA in blended and online education’ and as a keynote presentation during the OOFHEC2018 Conference in Aarhus on 10-12 October 2018.

EADTU-ENQA Peer Learning Activity on Blended and Online Education

On 21-22 September 2017, the EADTU-ENQA Peer Learning Activity (PLA) on Quality Assurance in blended and online education took place in Brussels. In this highly interactive event a total of 45 stakeholder representatives were brought together, coming from 18 universities, 12 quality assurance agencies and 6 governments and umbrella organisations. The stakeholders had a constructive dialogue towards awareness and new steps in the uptake of new modes of teaching. This PLA identified next steps in the development of blended and online degree and continuing education.

Eventually, the results of this PLA will contribute to the Bologna Follow up process and are foreseen to be introduced to the council of Ministers meeting in Paris in 2018.

E-xcellence awards, OOFHEC2016

During the Online, open and flexible higher education conference in Rome at 19-21 November 2016, three E-xcellence Associates in Quality received the E-xcellence award. Identifying their excellence in new modes of teaching as well as fields of improvement in their institutions.

EADTU appointed as ICDE Quality Focal Point for Europe

UNESCO has partnered up with ICDE, Commonwealth of Learning and INQAAHE for the initiative: International Conference on Quality Assurance: Achieving Sustainable Development through a diverse provision of Higher Education, to be held at UNESCO Head Quarter in Paris, June 2018. To prepare and mobilise for this comprehensive conference, 6 – 10 regional meetings will be organised in the period late 2016 – 2018 in cooperation with so-called Focal Points of Quality.

EADTU has been appointed as ICDE Focal Point on Quality for Europe, with support of FIED, SADE and OUUK, and will have a leading and coordinating role for quality work in Europe.

Launch third edition E-xcellence manual

The third edition of the E-xcellence manual has been launched on 13 April 2016. This new edition includes additional material reflecting on new and recent trends: the rapid rise of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), a surge of interest in learning analytics, and an increasing use of learning design in a more systematic approach to the development of blended and online education courses. A number of other topics that are not yet widespread have also been included, such as an increased focus on personalisation, flipped approaches to teaching, virtual and remote laboratories, digital badges and e-portfolios.

ENQA-EQTel

ENQA is currently involved as a partner in the Tempus project “Enhancing Quality of Technology-Enhanced Learning at Jordanian Universities” (EQTeL) coordinated by Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), Jordan.

Professor Adel Twieisi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, led a delegation consisted of the Presidents of Princess Sumaya university, Yarmouk University, Hashemite University and Al-Hussein Bi Tala University to ENQA on 16 May 2017. George Ubachs represented EADTU at this event and contributed by introducing the E-xcellence instrument and reporting on the EADTU survey on accreditation of online education in Europe.
